Discernment counseling
For Couples on the Brink of divorce
You don’t know if you can stay — but you’re not sure you’re ready to go.
If one of you is leaning out of the relationship and the other is holding on, traditional couples therapy can feel like too much, too soon. Discernment Counseling offers a different path — one that gives you both clarity, confidence, and calm about your next steps.
What is Discernment Counseling?
Discernment Counseling is a short-term, structured process (1–5 sessions) designed for couples who are uncertain about whether to rebuild their marriage or separate well.
It’s not marriage therapy — it’s decision therapy.
You’ll each have time to reflect individually and together, with my guidance, so that you can gain a deeper understanding of:
What’s brought your relationship to this point
What’s been tried (and what hasn’t worked)
What each of you is willing — or not willing — to do to change
Whether there’s enough hope and motivation to move forward together
By the end, you’ll have greater clarity about which path to take next — and peace knowing you made that decision with care, not crisis.
Who’s it for?
Discernment Counseling is for couples where:
One partner is “leaning out” and considering divorce
The other partner is “leaning in” and wants to save the marriage
You’re both open to slowing down and exploring whether change is possible
If both partners are ready to work on the relationship, couples therapy may be the next step. If one or both decide to separate, we’ll focus on how to part with honesty, respect, and dignity — especially if children are involved.
What can you expect in Discernment Counseling?
Each session includes:
Time with both partners together
One-on-one time with each of you
Gentle, structured guidance — never pressure or judgment
My role isn’t to convince you to stay or go, but to help you see your options more clearly and choose your path with integrity and understanding.
